There’s no more ultimate bragging right in the automotive space than a Nürburgring lap record, but on the heels of the crash that claimed a life the people who run the ‘Ring have passed down a ban on manufacturer lap records for the remainder of the year.

This news comes from the producers of the documentary APEX, who were hoping to film Koenigsegg’s record run attempt in the Koenigsegg ONE:

This is the final chapter in a storyline that follows the past three years of auto manufacturers battling it out for technological dominance in producing halo cars for the next decade, cars including the Porsche 918, McLaren P1, and Ferrari LaFerrari. All have shown what they’re worth on the track, but the Koenigsegg One:1 has yet to do so.

News is starting to circulate in the online motoring media about the custodians of the Nurburgring placing a temporary ban on companies conducting timed laps as part of their vehicle testing/proving programs.

The ban is a response to the dangers the track serve at full-on attack, and the accidents that can follow.

.....

Media reports indicate that the current decision may be a temporary one, possibly until the end of 2015. We will do whatever we can to keep the lines of communication open with Nurburgring track management to make sure we don’t miss an opportunity to show the world what we have created and what it is capable of.

We hope to only need about 7 minutes of their time and we will do our best to not use all of it.

This sucks but the timing is kind of suspicious. It almost looks like they allowed Lamborghini to complete their run strategically before the ban. Any coincidence that German Motorsport Association has ties to VW who owns Lamborghini? The same Lamborghini that just did a sub 7-minute lap time with the Aventador SV.

Even with Sony backing and a film hanging in the balance it looks like there is no hope of a lift or exception.

Small edit: Apparently the GMA won't allow Chevrolet to post the C7 Z06 time since it's now in violation of the track's bullshit speed limits. What a total crock!
