Default Hyundai Motor America Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Since 1986, Hyundai has sold 4,327,150 vehicles in the U.S.,
Invested more than $1.2 Billion in Facilities and Currently Employs 4,000 People Nationwide

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., February 17, 2006 - Today, Hyundai Motor Company, now the fourth largest import manufacturer in the U.S., is celebrating twenty years of selling vehicles in the United States. Since its entry into the U.S. market in 1986, Hyundai Motor America has sold 4,327,150 vehicles (through January 2006) with a single-year record of 455,012 established last year, the fifth year in a row of record setting sales. Additionally, Hyundai has invested more than $1.2 billion in research, design, engineering and manufacturing facilities throughout the U.S., and now features nine models spanning numerous segments.

"We are extremely proud of the progress Hyundai has made in the United States over the past twenty years," said Owen Koh, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. "Hyundai's full-cycle capability, from design to production in the U.S. is the direct result of twenty years of hard work and dedication to this marketplace."

Vehicle Sales

At the end of 2005, Hyundai established its fifth consecutive all-time sales record with 455,012 vehicle sales, a 399 percent increase in sales since 1998.

Since entering the marketplace with 50 dealers in 1986, Hyundai dealerships now number more than 695 nationwide.

"Strong, well-supported dealerships that provide outstanding customer service are key to Hyundai's continued success in the U.S. market," said Mark Barnes, vice president, National Sales, for Hyundai Motor America. "We appreciate the loyalty and dedication of our dealers and look forward to working together to expand our sales growth across the country."

Expanded Line-Up

Hyundai began selling vehicles in the United States with just one model in the lineup. It has since grown to feature eight vehicles in its product line, including: The Accent, Tiburon, Elantra, Sonata, Santa Fe and Tucson. Also included in the lineup is the 2006 Azera, Hyundai's new flagship sedan that replaced the XG350, and the 2007 Entourage, Hyundai's exciting first entry into the minivan segment.

Hyundai's commitment to safety is a focus across the company. Life-saving safety features like front and curtain airbags for all three rows of seats in the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe and standard Electronic Stability and Traction control in the 2007 Azera, exemplify Hyundai's commitment to utilizing the most effective safety technologies for the benefit of the consumer.

Each vehicle is backed by The Hyundai Advantage, America's Best Warranty. This warranty program, a leader among the automotive industry, offers 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain protection, 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper protection and 5-year unlimited roadside assistance on all new vehicles.

Investments in the U.S.

As part of its commitment to investing in the United States, Hyundai Motor Company has made significant investments in the American marketplace - totaling $1.2 billion and has created 4,000 American jobs.

The largest of these investments was Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, Hyundai's first production and assembly plant in North America. This $1.1 billion plant, located in Montgomery, Ala, now employs more than 2,500 skilled workers and produces the 2006 Hyundai Sonata and will begin production of the 2007 Santa Fe this spring.

In February 2003, Hyundai celebrated the grand opening of the $30-million Hyundai-Kia Design and Technical Center in Irvine, Calif. This center houses the Hyundai's most accomplished U.S. designers as well as advanced visualization and graphics technologies that keep Hyundai at the forefront of vehicle technology and design.

In January of 2005, Hyundai opened the Hyundai-Kia Proving Grounds in California City, Calif. This $50-million, 4,300-acre facility was constructed to recreate real-world road conditions in order to test and refine the numerous safety, performance and advanced engineering features available on Hyundai vehicles.

Hyundai continued its investments in the U.S. with the opening of the Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center in Superior Township, Mich., in October of 2005. This 190,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art engineering center serves as Hyundai's North American headquarters for research and design and plays a crucial role in the development and design of future Hyundai vehicles.

Awards

Throughout the past twenty years, the automotive industry has taken notice of Hyundai's growing levels of safety and quality across all Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai has received numerous industry awards and accolades, including:

Earned the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) top five-star crash test rating for front and side impacts on the 2006 Hyundai Sonata.

Ranked third-best non-luxury brand in the 2005 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study, up from fourth in 2004.

Received the Pricewaterhouse Coopers 2005 Global Automotive Shareholder Value Award on behalf of Hyundai Motor Company for total shareholder return performance. Hyundai posted shareholder return of 80 percent and 329 percent over one-and three-year periods respectively.

Elantra named "Best-in-Class" in Strategic Vision's 2005 "Customer Delight Index."

2005 Santa Fe rated top in the Standard Mid-Size SUV category in the AutoPacific 2005 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards.
Corporate Philanthropy

Since 1998, Hyundai dealers across the country, together with Hyundai Motor America, have been helping kids fight cancer. The idea originated when Boston-area Hyundai dealers began working to donate funds to benefit the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Institute. This initiative led to a nationwide program Hyundai established in 2004 known as the "Hope On Wheels" tour, which travels throughout the United States raising money for pediatric cancer institutions throughout the country.

In 2005, Hyundai partnered with CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation to help continue to raise awareness and much-needed funding for pediatric cancer research. To date, Hyundai Motor America and its dealers have donated more than $7 million towards the fight against pediatric cancer.
