I would like to buy a full size truck to use as a daily driver. I'm mainly looking at F150s, GMC Sierras and Chevy Silverados (non diesels or heavy duty). The problem I'm having is everything under 20-25K has 100,000 miles on it (give or take 10-15K above and under). I know if you take care of your vehicle, mileage doesn't mean a whole lot because there are cars on the road with twice as much and still going strong. I was always told though that anything with 100,000 miles on it or higher wont last much longer and you should always try to buy vehicles with less than that. But when it comes to trucks built from say 2008 and up, how true is that statement? Still better to buy a full size truck with under 100K or would buying one with more be fine as long as I got a warranty and can see it was serviced well?
Eh, I wouldn't. Just saw my dad have to replace his engine in his Silverado 2500 with only 106k. Most people I know with full size trucks they start having problems with em around the 100k mark.

It depends also on if the truck towed or hauled a lot of stuff too. The engine and tranny could be worn out but if you get a good warranty that covers everything, you should be fine.

We didn't hesitate to get a truck with 160k on it. The GM 5.3L V8 is a 300,000 mile engine according to two mechanic friends of mine. One pointed out that the transmission won't make it that far!
Anyway 100k on a truck with just a few years on it is still a baby if it was maintained properly.

We have several trucks in our fleet with 200-500k miles on them. Mostly F150's and a couple Chevy's. They all run very well and very few have needed trans work. It is mostly due to our guys dogging them. I think the main issues are suspensions wearing out. Older trucks do need more attention, but in the grand scheme they require less money invested. Sure you may have to pay $500-1000 every so often on replacement parts, but does that really compare to the extra $10-20k on a newer truck?
