Default DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Kia unveils KCD-1 Slice concept vehicle

Kia's KCD-1 Slice makes its North American debut

Kia unveiled its interpretation of a "crossover vehicle", the KCD-1 Slice at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Designed as an alternative to everyday SUV's, the Slice features an open interior enhanced by the lack of a B-pillar to get in the way. Combined with a 24-valve V6 engine and 6-passenger seating, the Slice concept has power and versatility.

An "aggressively-tuned", 4-wheel independent suspension, Kia's Sportmatic transmission and 235/45R19 tires on 19-inch alloy wheels add to the performance aspect of this vehicle. While no production plans have been set, the Slice has been designed for both front- and all-wheel drive configurations.

Exterior styling is highlighted by orange accents, flared headlights, a "fast windshield angle", high-mounted taillights and curved rear glass. Inside, thin-profile seats feature integrated seatbelts and the dashboard contains a pop-up LCD screen for navigation, information and entertainment displays. Below the dashboard, a center console resembles a motorcycle fuel tank.

Engineering:
- aluminum 2.7 DOHC, 24-valve V6
- front- or all-wheel drive
- Sportmatic semi-automatic transmission
- speed-sensitive power steering
- front and rear stabilizer bars
- double-wishbone suspension
- 19-inch alloy wheels
- 235/45R19 tires

Design/Safety:
- 6-passenger seating
- integrated seatbelts
- dual front airbags
- side-impact and side curtain airbags
- infotainment/navigation system
- reverse-opening rear doors

Dimensions:
- length: 177-in (4496mm)
- width: 72-in (1829mm)
- height: 63-in (1600mm)
- wheelbase: 112-in (2845mm)
