Default DETROIT AUTO SHOW: BMW unveils 760Li

BMW flagship with world's first V12 direct-injection engine

BMW presented the 12-cylinder 760Li at the Detroit Auto Show. The 760Li complements the existing 745i and 745Li 8 cylinder versions with a 6.0 liter engine and a 5.5" longer wheelbase than the 745i and 745Li. The 12-cylinder engine is the world's first direct-injection 12-cylinder to enter the market. Fuel is directly injected into the combustion changer rather than into the intake port. It achieves 445 hp and 368 lbs.-ft. torque from its 6.0 liter engine with a combined, estimated 21 mpg.
Additional technology includes:
-four-valves per cylinder
-VALVETRONIC fully-variable valve control
-"noiseless" engine at idle
-six-speed automatic transmission
-shift-by-wire control
-steering wheel-mounted paddles
-optional active cruise control with speed preset and distance sensing
-all-aluminum suspension with Active Ride Stabilization
-Dynamic Traction Control
-Park Distance Control
-electronically controlled blinds
-Bi-Xenon headlamps
-iDrive

Selected safety systems include:
-active head protection for all outboard passengers
-adaptive belt force limiters

Selected options include:
-18" alloy wheels with run flat tires (no cost)
-break resistant security glass USD 2,600
-rear climate control and coolbox USD 1,800
-rear side-impact airbags USD 385

Base retail including destination and handling is USD 116,495. Retail deliveries begin in January 2003.
