The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is going racing, and the brand has revealed the first photos of its latest IMSA and World Challenge racer, the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R.

The Camaro GT4.R is based on the road-going 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, which itself is nearly a race car ready for the street. That means its dynamic spool-valve dampers (DSSV) are present and accounted for, which made their debut on the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28.

Chevrolet said the Camaro GT4.R reaffirms the commitment its racing programs have with its road vehicles.

“This is an exciting time for Chevrolet Racing with the first race for the new Camaro GT4.R,” said Mark Kent, Chevrolet Director of Motorsports Competition.

“It is another great example of how Chevrolet transfers technology between our racing programs and our performance production vehicles. The Camaro brand has a strong history on the track and the street, and the GT4.R program will add to that pedigree.”

The Camaro GT4.R will make its racing debut at this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge season opener in St. Pete. Following its debut, you can expect to see the Camaro GT4.R compete in IMSA and World Challenge events globally. The Continental Tire Challenge competition at Circuit of The Americas will be the racer’s next stop this coming May.

I wonder if my neighbor knows about this. He just preordered a brand new ZL1.
