Bugatti has begun work on the Veyron’s successor, and it sounds like it’ll take the original car’s extreme performance to another level.

Reports suggest that the new car will adopt a heavily updated version of the Veyron’s 8.0-litre W16 engine, incorporating hybrid technology to help produce approximately 1500bhp. The latest wave of hypercars all use electric motors to provide blistering pace, so it comes as no surprise that Bugatti is looking to use this technology also.

The new car is undergoing initial engineering tests, and is hoped will carry on the Veyron’s USP of becoming one of the, if not the, world’s fastest production car. Aside from the monumental shove provided by the engine, the new Bug will carry over the carbonfibre monocoque from the Veyron to keep weight as low as possible.

Our render above showcases how the new Bugatti could look, taking the Veyron’s imposing silhouette and creating a more slimline design. We’ll likely find out what the car looks like in 2016. First deliveries are expected in 2017.

I bet it'll come with a nice 2 million price tag too.

The Grand Sport is 2.2M, the SS is 3+ and both can be speced out damn near infinitely.
