'93 Toyota Mr2 N/a
My brother and I both purchased these cars around the same time used. Mine being around 6.5K and his 7.5K. He bought a 1993 Toyota MR2 (non-turbo) and it's quite peppy, and feels even peppier driving it. We've fooled around with our cars a few times and it seems like they're equally parred. We both have autos, but out of 1st gear he pulls out infront of me with ease, but then in 2nd I slowly pull through. Even though his MR2 is only a 130hp car where in the Tiburon a 140hp engine, the MR2 weighs hardly anything at all. It's power to weight ratio is evidently much better. How would any of you here compare the two? The times are similar, the 0-60 times for the Tiburon and MR2 both being 8.4 seconds and the quarter mile @ 16.5 stock. No wonder we're twins. Our cars are at a stalemate thus far it seems ^__^ Once I get intake, I think that might give my car the extra punch that it lacks.
Theres a MR2 I race on a almost daily bassis (in a safe closed location) and the Tib never has any problems. its realy riced out i never asked what he has under the hood, each day we leave at the same time get in our cars we dont even look at each other and each day we race em. I've never had a problem going against it. Idk what year it is but it seems at least 5 or 6 years old.
It definitely can't be the turbo MR2 then.tongue.gif
Is your car all stock? And is it a manual or an auto?
The car you are talking about is probably newer than my brothers, but it's probably still comparable in performance. MR2s are crazy! They resemble Ferrari 355s. RWD and mid-engine, and the handling is absolutely insane. Problem is if he accelerates through a bend too quickly, he's done for.

The MR is a sharp looking car. I almost a turbo MR2 back in 91 but they were pretty expensive at the time and ended up buying a 5.0 for thousands less. I still think it's a good looking car today and I've been tempted to buy a MR2 turbo on several occasions.
Early MR2s had a lift off throttle problem where the rear suspension would jack up and throw all the weight of the engine and transmission into the outside of a corner, giving the car instant oversteer. I believe after 95 they redid the rear suspension some to alleviate that.
Personally, I like the first generation MR2s. Smaller, lighter, and availible with a Supercharged engine.

MR2s are indeed fun to drive... you do have to be careful though. I've seen plenty of newbie drivers try and drive them and end up in ditches, and on one occasion, trying to do a burnout and ending up flying into a parking lot across the street. lol.gif
