Default What's your data storage method?

I don't have a personal computer, but I have a work laptop at home, and a desktop in the office. Obviously, I don't want to store my personal crap on any work computer. Right now I'm using a WD Passport so it's mobile, but I don't see it as a reliable method for storage. I'd like to use one for day to day transport, but have a backup secure at home, maybe in a fire resistant case....or the cloud if it's reasonable in price?

What do you do or what would you recommend?

But if your home/apartment burns down? I guess I've gotten to that age where these things matter. lol But really though, I wouldn't want to lose family photos.

You could get something like this... A small firesafe that you put your normal HDD in:

Or, a "fire safe" HDD:

I think I'd go with the first option.

I've got over 20TB of storage between active internal drives and externals for portable storage or backups. I also have a safe deposit box which can fit 2.5" external drives for backups of things I can't bear to lose.

OwnCloud or NextCloud(new name). It's free, you can host it in your closet. It replaces Google Photos, AND it replaces Google Docs. It has desktop clients for all platforms which allow you to sync your data. It has a web interface that lets you drag and drop. It will run on a raspberry pi. You just need a dynamic DNS setup which is also free.

I keep them in my fire resistant safe and they only come out once a month for the backups.

That's cool, unless your house burns down. Kinda the point of "off site" or a fire safe.
