Is there anyway to stop the animation in the avatars and signature? I know I can turn them off but I really don't want to do that. Some of them are pretty schizo.

You can only turn them off globally forum wide. I can build in the functionality so that its per user, but it may take me some time since I'm working on a couple other things to enhance the speed and other things with the site. I'll add it to my to do list for you.

Thanks, I've the avatars and sigs off for now. What other content would be lost by a global nuke on them?

Nothing. Once you turn off sigs and avatars globally, thats all the setting does. You wont be able to see either for anyone forum wide.
