nice!!..I like the F2 eyeball headlights

I'm gonna start driving this thing to work, so I'm making as many comfort upgrades as I can. One thing I felt it needed was a new rear view mirror with auto-dimming, compass, homelink, etc. We'll see if it works out. These are pretty common mirrors found on Nissans, Toyotas, Kia's, etc. so they're easy to find and about $30 shipped used.

Last night I got the mirror mounted. It wasn't too bad of an install. The only problem I found was that this bigger mirror requires you to place it about 1.5" further down the windshield. But, the benefits are wonderful! It's larger. It's clearer. It has garage learning buttons and auto-dimming. And it just looks nicer overall rather than a cheap POS. lol

There are 3 wires that need to be connected. 2 power wires which you can hook up to the overhead. I believe they are constant power. And 1 ground.

No, the mounting button is not the same as the Hyundai, so you'll need to remove everything.

This is a Gentex mirror with Homelink that comes on a lot of cars, not just Toyota. MAKE SURE you get the entire mirror assembly with the bracket, the button, and the pigtail wiring. You will have a hard time finding these items separately and pay a lot more. I paid $30 shipped for all of it on ebay.

I used the standard Permatex mirror mounting kit for $4 at Autozone. This should be sufficient. It says to allow 30 minutes to dry, but I waited 2 hours and even then I didn't put much pressure on it when installing the mirror.

To remove the factory mirror, you need to use a long flat blade. It doesn't need to be sharp, but does need to be sturdy and near flat. I tried using a razor blade but it wasn't long enough and was too flimsy, I broke 2 of them. I ended up using a metal ruler I had laying around. I also heated up the glass and button with a heat gun so the glue would be softer. I took a chance, hoping that I wouldn't crack the glass. It then came off easy. The glue is flimsy, not hard and brittle, so it peels up. After that, I cleaned the glass with a straight edge, then used the mounting kit cleaner and followed the rest of the instructions.

Easy!



(There are also versions with a compass and temp, but I know where I am at all times and my phone says the temp )

Also, I know the compass sounds like a nice feature, but it does get in the way and becomes annoying when looking in the mirror. You can turn it off, but it just resets itself the next time you drive. That's why I got one without it. I have the exact same mirror in my Avalon with a compass.

Nothing you can do about the faces. Not even rubbing off the paint. Not even LED's behind them.

This thing has sat for over a year. lol When I went to start it, the fuel pump wasn't turning on. So I pulled the pump and saw it was already corroded. Bought another for $30 off Amazon, still no start. Checked wiring, long story short, there is a short somewhere at the pump harness. I got it working and drove it again after diluting old fuel with enough new. lol Even let my wife and neighbor have some fun. I forgot how fun it was to drive! I mean really, all these smaller cars these days suuuuck.

Think I'll give her a much needed wash and snap some shots. I don't have any with the F2 conversion complete.
