to clarify something

how did you(187) know the beta 2 was having problems? they dont have HLAs to tick...

im gonna side with jon on this one ive NEVER even heard of a beta locking up from oil starvation, the oil switch is HELLA sensitive and will turn on long before the motor even has a chance to lock up

the only time i ever had even remotely a tick in my beta was when i was running cheap oil...and i used to throw my car around like there was no tomorrow

Jon, you're asserting facts that you couldn't even possibly know. Such as that nobody has had issues or that nobody upgraded their oiling in any way.

Is oil starvation lurking around the corner to kill everyone's Beta? No not at all. Depending on the intended use it certainly could be an issue IF you can make enough lateral g-force. Most people couldn't even if they wanted to, but some people might, depending on their plans. No issues ever with drag racing no matter what, but IMO it can be an issue if you plan on sticking on a set of Hoosier A6's and seeing what the car can do.

I respect your opinion and what you're saying during the portions of your posts while you're using facts and observations to present a counterpoint.

It was ticking like a SOB for some reason after every run except for his first run. Beyond that, I have no other data except that after it would stop ticking and sit for a couple of minutes the oil level was about 3/4 of the way up the normal range on the dipstick. I had my own problems to deal with because my HLA's were giving me hell so I couldn't focus on his problems.

You can side with whatever you want to, however the FACT is that I witnessed this issue. I don't claim to know the cause. Crappy oil? Maybe, I don't know. Mechanical issue? Maybe. It didn't seize, but I've never heard an engine tick like that without being concerned. I am not saying OMFG turn corners and you'll asplode!!111!! I'm saying I witnessed a condition. I formulated an opinion based on the several Alphas and Deltas that I have witnessed have marked oil starvation issues that since the Beta did the same damn thing that it's probably got the same issue. Does it? I don't know for sure or claim to. Does having baffles make it a sure thing that you won't have oil starvation? Obviously not or the thousands of racers with factory baffled oil pans would not have bothered to install gates and/or other upgrades.

Throwing around a car honestly has nothing to do with this issue. I threw around my car a ton too for 5 years and never had an issue until I was running at organized events, and even then only rarely. Andy blew his Alpha at autox due to the Alpha's issues with oil starvation, yet 99%+ of people have never had even a minor issue with it.

Bottom line, sounds like the Beta usually fares better than the Alpha and Delta but statements involving "zero" "impossible" "never" and the like are what I'm taking issue with because that's BS and everyone here should know that. For the typical person, even the typical hardcore racer it might not be necessary. If you have a real oil pressure gauge, like you should with an aftermarket turbo anyways, you should be able to let off before there's an issue if there ever is one. If there never is, that's fine no need to make changes.

I'm really glad you're hear to point out this major flaw that thousands, including Hyundai, managed to overlook in 14 years of the Beta aftermarket and design history.
Man, if only all those people with seized up Betas due to oil-starvation had known about this sooner................wait, how many have there been?

Lol this is to funny, i ask a simple little question just to see what oil i should use, which with the help of some ppl and 187sks addvice i found what i want. Then it turned into something crazy after we started talking about modifying oil systems. lol Then it turns into a arguement over oil pans. Thats cute. laugh.gif I will put up some pics to help explain what ppl are saying or what i am thinking there trying to say. As far as oiling problems i only know about the v's having issues, not the inlines. The only reason i wanted oiling info is becasue i just spent a ton of cash on a motor and turbo and i want it to last!

F-ING ZERO!!!!!

No thanks. I'll save the time and effort and pass on your warning. But you can continue to frighten newbs about the issue and recommend modified baffling.
