What exactly are bars?

Default What exactly are bars?

I have seen people talking about 1/2 bar and 1 bar. Can somebody explain what the term means? I did a search and couldnt find anything.

Im a about 2 bars, it is a Metric unit of measurement sir. 1 bar is equal to about 14.5 Psi.

1 Bar is a pressure unit about equal to the barometric pressure at sea level. As TR said, about 14.5PSI.

bars are those places you can go into and they serve you liquor.



the half bars are the places that only serve beer and no hard stuff.

Not PSI, but PSIA ... it makes a difference.



14.7 psia is sea level ... which is equal to 0 psi, which is equal a little over one bar.

^Not really. It's a unit of pressure, just like PSI. 1 bar = 14.5038 PSI. And just like PSI you can use it in relation to absolute 0 (absolute pressure), or in relation to sea level (gauge pressure). When someone is saying "I'm pushing 2 bars of boost" it normally means gauge pressure, so it's 29psi of pressure over ambient.

Sea level is approximately 1.01 bar



So unless your an engineer its close enough ...
