looks like i got a bad batch of fuel, but pig headed like i am i didn't want to let the JDM gtr pass me
(yeah it was on a track,just in case you're wondering)

so after a year of abuse, lots of boost (sometimes up to 25psi) lots of air flow (ported head,good cams,air ram manifold)
one of the stock decided that it was is retiring day....



on a side note,here's what i found in my pile of stock pistons, this one came out of my old NA engine,no boost, but lots of rpm and abuse...

This does show an important point though. 18 psi on stock internals is completely possible with a good tune. And if you were running 25 psi on stock internals you were really pushing the limits of stock components. This is good information for all turbo guys to know where the limits are at.

Wow!, meltage! So, about how many miles/kms did you have at high boost before this happened?

 

that's a hardcore piston blowup for sure.

good to know about stock internals though, for sure.

 

it ran for about 30k km,
it's not the piston fault, mostly mine and the bad batch of fuel...

anyway,
i'm putting another stock bottom end together with parts i have laying around,lower the boost to get rid of that batch of fuel and do the break in then it will be back at 18 psi once the tank is empty for sure ;-)

in my mind, 14 psi is safe, anything beyond that is pushing the enveloppe,but if someone wants to do it, just don't blame it on me ;-)
