Turbo VS. Supercharger?
 
I have a 2003 tiburon GT. I am looking to either turbo it or supercharge it. I was wondering what it better and what the max I could boost it with the factory motor?

I am not sure of the figures... But between Turbo and Supercharger it depends what kind of power you looking for...

Turbo is more for acceleration - so you will be quick of the mark...
Supercharger more for constant speed - top end...

So u decide what you looking for....

Dude turbos dont give you boost right away, not till like 2500 3000 rpms so no it doesnt help you off the line. a supercharger will. but with superchargers it takes power to make power. go turbo. its basically free power.

Turbo lag is overrated. You have lag through maybe first gear. Then you shift and are still in the power zone. S/C is more reliable I would say because of the lower boost.

yeah a s/c is more reliable, but i read somewhere it takes like, 40 horsepower to just run it, idk i could be wrong, but im just a fan a basically free power, and theres also more turbo kits for tibs. least that i have seen.

eh again it depends...at low boost I feel they are about the same...but yes a turbo is free power. The Tiburon GT cant hold very large boost. 8-10 psi but not for sure. Check out Alpine and get a look at there super charger system. Also you can use a turbo as big as a 16G off an Evo and still not have to worry about lag...its all a matter of tune and setup...Ive heard of turbos up to a T28 hitting full boost in about 3-4 rpm and maintaining it just by hitting 50% throttle.

First off, what will the car be used for? Street driving and occasional squirts, or will it see mostly high-rpm operation?

ok, so here are how things work and you can be the judge. in regaurds to a S/C, it runs directly off the pullys on the engine, so it takes work to get it spinning. just like ozzyovergod said, it takes power to make power so once it gets spinning, your good to go. and like they said, less "boost" due to lower pressure its a little easier on the engine. also with the S/C you loose a little gas milage. as for turbo, as we all know, runs off of exhaust presure, hence lag, but it doesn't actualy take any work for the engine to get it moving. turbos slighly increase gas milage and give you alot of power, but due to the fact that they use 14 to 22 lbs of presure, really hard on the engine. and full turbo kits are kinda exspensive from what i have found. that is about all i know in a nutshell.

People with the v6 usually go supercharger. NGM has allot of aftermarket F/I parts for the v6. Check that site out, I know there are allot of people over there that have boosted v6's.

just to get it straight.... turbo's do not add gas milage and when they are not in use(under boost) they are a slight restriction in the exhaust...How can u increase mpg's when u are throwing in about 1/3 more fuel @ 5psi then your stock motors supposed to make your afr in the 13-16 range....and no superchargers do not drain 50 hp more like the same drag as a a/c and p/s. I would like to turbo my accent but spending that much money on time.... on a motor that has no safety to turbo's such as low compression 9:1 and lower no oil cooler no oil squirters id rather use my escort gt- it has the bp-ze a 1.8L dohc n/a engine with oil cooler/squirters and a 9:1 ratio thats a good car for a base turbo system. The accent is more complex becuz it has the opposite of power handling in mind.
