Turbo Rebuild Tips?
 

I'm going to be rebuilding my "new" Turbo on either Friday night or Saturday morning.

Looking over the instructions about the only thing I can see is that I should mark the alignment of the housing and then somehow (???) mark the alignment of the impellers.

Not quite sure how I'm going to do this, guess I could scribe a mark on each end.

Anyone with tips or tricks sure would be appreciated.

The oil seals are shot, it's blowing oil under boost.

try this website. It helped me get mine apart for cleaning (didn't need to do the rebuild).

Sorry - just had to post this..... From reading through that article, now I know that my turbo IS balanced and I need to mark the alignment before I disassemble it. :D

FYI Note: It stated that if the lock nut was ground off it was most likely for balancing.

A new turbocharger should not blow oil through the exhaust at all as new bushes, rings and thrust collar/washers don;t wear that easily - what I would check first is the diameter of your oil return into the sump and make sure it is not blocked and large enough.

Also check your oil for any contaminants (iron filings or any dirt or something that might have gotten into the oil somehow - it would be pointless rebuilding your turbo and the same thing happens again.
