pros and cons of water/methanol injection
in a nutshell, cools the intake air, which means temps are lower to run higher(safer) psi(tuned of course).,I use snows meth injection and electronic controller, makes me feel safer in the high psi range on hot days specially, and at the track,.plus meth is cheap, no cons really, cept if its just installed and the car not properly tuned afterwards, you will have lost power not gained ...Just my 2 cents wink.gif
If you dont need it dont fit it. But if you do then its a great way to make power and and reliability. So what are the cons? Well the biggest one its that you need to change your oil every 5000km as the meth contaminates the oil. Second is that you need to make sure you mix your methanol and water 50-50 everytime. But i tell you sumthing that you probably dont know that methanol once opened draws water in so hyperthetocaly once you open a new can of 100% methonal 6 months later it would of diluted itself and then if you mix 50-50 as your normally would it wont actually be 50-50. And then your car would be running lean. So dont buy big batches. It took me over a year to get threw 20 liters. Also you must have a reliable source buy it straight from a chemical supplies not from another racer or tuneing shop. This cost me a engine. Then when you mix the water into the meth make sure it stays clear. Its allowed to make bubbles and get warm but if it gets milky throw it away. I used the snow kit and was very happy with it. At lower boost it was a little tricky to use cos when it comes in the car will immediatly overfuel- miss fire and your injectors need to give less fuel thats why guys generally use it on high boost cos then it eats it up. According to snow boost there is no benifit running more that 50% methonal but all the guys i know who race at the track race with 100 octane and 100% meth in there snow boost bottles. And eventually i ran the same setup with pump gas. I think it depends on your setup. I ran a scoupe standard engine for 5 years on 1.5 bar boost withous water-meth and never had anyproblems.
^^ every 5000 kms a con?, I change oil in my t setup every 3000kms,even b4 I installed meth?.,I buy a 4 litre meth jug for less than $10 at any local paint shop and could last me a week or one day depending on how I'm driving (Only a small resivoir in the engine bay ) ..why is mixing it 50/50 a con?, thats what the mix is supposed to be!? plus it sounds like schwitzer turbo ran a basic kit with no electronic progressive controllerI.Mine is set to start progressivly at 6 psi..
Yes i ran a basic non progressive setup. And on my setup a changed oil and filter ever 1000km. *I never said running 50-50 was a con. My last race enging lasted 10 000km at over 1.8 bar boost. At times 2.3 bar. The octane of the fuel is directly related to how much power you can make. So if you run more meth than water the octane rating will increase. And when guys go buy race fuel they dont throw water in to improve the quality of the fuel or to make more power. Essentialy a 50-50 mix is the best for a street car. As the water in the mix does add cooling. But if all race dump the water meth injection and convert your car to 100 % meth * i have searched the snow performance web site and they maintain 50-50 is the only mix. But all the guys who run 10 second front wheel drives run no water. I chose running 100% cos was just easier. And because my car was tuned on 50-50 if i ever got a batch of bad pump gas my car would never burn plugs.
the thing about water/meth injection as opposed to just straight water injection is that IF setup right the meth will give a small power boost as opposed to straight water
the water can absorb a lot of heat and therefore you can run higher boost as it helps resist detonation
plus water injection will keep your internals (pistons and valves) nice and clean

^^yes i agree, tuning is the key., plus i really change the oil a lot more frequently than 3000 kms, cause of all my other unforseen issues lol... but all in all ,meth is good for anyone boosting big...

i have 1.8 pistons and 2.0 rods at around 11:1 compression, car is being tuned wednesday at 8psi.
i plan on running 100% meth and boosting about 14psi later on down the road.
