I went to a junk yard yest. and saw a couple of turbocharged SAABs and Volvo's. I took all the hoses off the turbo and pretty much every single turbo had oil in the compressor side. I can get those turbos really cheap, but don't want to just waste my money on a broken turbo which will leak oil. So do you all think that oil that was inside of the turbo means that the turbo is completely messed up and should be rebuild?
also would anyone recommend those ebay rebuild kits? I might rebuild it myself if i get time. thanks pashka |
generally... oil inside the turbine housing of a turbo means the seals are gone.. probably still cheaper to have it rebuilt than to buy a whole new one though
Well you have to remember when you are rebuilding turbos there is a very small tolerance for the fitment of the bushing's (aka Seals), we are talking a 1000th of a inch, so unless you have the correct tools I would not attempt to do a rebuild. Also the turbine/compressor shaft my have wear on it as well.
so, you would not recommend doing it myself? I just dont wanna loose money and something that I wont be able to use.
I wouldn't. If anything, I would buy a new turbo.
Yeah I know how much it cost me to get a rebuild and by the time you get everything done with the purchase and the rebuild you would be a few off of a new one.
But the thing is that I'm trying to build a low budget turbo kit, and I dont wanna spend more than $200 on a turbo...
well, what about those rebuild kits on ebay? |
$200???? Wait and save up man. What if the crappy $200 turbo gives out on you a month after installing it? Then you'll end up spending another $400 rebuilding or buying another crappy turbo. Seriously, thats one of the best things to save up for. It'll save you a lot of headaches in the end.
yeah, you are right, but I really don't want to spend more than I planned to... I know lots of people that bought their turbos for that price and it works for them fine, so I wanna be one of those people, lol smile.gif

Ok I have a Mitsu T25 Sitting here that is in good shape I will let you get for $150 plus shipping if you want a good cheap turbo.
I want a little bigger than t25. I was looking for a t3 with 42/48 ars. T25 will not give me all the desired power all the way to the redline, or will it?
Give me some specifics and I will let you know if I'm interested. |
I was running one on my 94 Elantra and it was pulling 8psi all the way to redline. As for the specs those will have to wait till I get home.
how much power were you gettin out of it with 8psi? and btw check your pms
I got the PM and replied I was at around 200whp but remember that was a 4G67 1.8l Mitsu Motor.
check your pms again smile.gif
I'm going to work now, but will be back around 10. |
Got it and back at ya.
nice thing about the t25.. it has good throttle response..
yes it does, but I wouldnt want my turbo to be spooled up all the time. My rd is a daily driver and in the traffic I dont need any power. I also heard that with small turbo your car will be jerking every time you give it some gas.
damn..... sounds like i want this turbo... car is jerkin every time you give it some gas... now thats my kinda drivin laugh.gif
mmm, yes turbo... i really need some more oomph to the boomph
Which Headers are better
???
did I just read that he actually WANTS turbo lag? That has to be a new one on me.
Basically.. it all comes down to the same old saw... "speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?" |
yes, I want turbo lag! If I had more money I would have gotten a t3/t4 hybride!!
