Knock and Detenation

Redz, you are correct that the one on the strut tower is called an acceleration sensor, but its purpose is to detect vertical movement, i.e. bumps in the road. "The acceleration sensor is used to sense rough road conditions. The sensor's signal is used by the Engine Control Module (ECM) to prevent wrongful misfire detection." That sensor along with the Knock sensor, which is located just behind the cam belt cover on the rear of the engine, allow the ECM to determine what is actually a misfire or predetection and what was just another streach bad road. Hyundai does it a little different than some other car makers, not to say it's better or worse, just different.
