Default KKK turbochargers?

Does anyone know anything about these things? I recently scored one for free. It has minimal shaft play. It came off of a 1998 Passat 1.8T with 60K miles on it. The motor snapped a timing belt and the owner just replaced the whole motor.

Is this turbocharger any good for the beta? I can provide the numbers off of it

5304 101 50 95B <--- those are cast on the intake housing.

058 145 703 <----- those are on the tag
K03-029B15011564 <-----^

These below are cast on the exhaust housing:

9244
5303
101 9701 D5
A

I also scored a DSM side mount intercooler for like $20. Can these items be used for the tib? I plan on getting an RD1.

Thanks for any help.

Those are relatively small turbines I believe, because Passats are slow... unless they are only like running 3 pounds of boost stock or something.

The DSM sidemount probably isn't worth keeping... it is worthy of the garbage disposal and thats it. Its made out of crappy material and a front-mount would give you Oh, so much better results.

The turbo is a pretty good score. Speed-factor.com would be a good site for you to visit and get the rest of the parts needed for your RD1. I don't know if Tim can make an exhaust manifold for you off of that flange, you can ask. You could probably run 8 pounds of boost on that little sucker for about 1000.00.

From what I've read the KKK series turbines are popular across either pond. Give it a shot. Check out some compressor maps to see if that will be suitable. In reality any turbo will fit any car. It's just whether it'll be efficient or not.

You've got about 1/4 of a turbo kit there. You'll still need a manifold, (speed-factor/tim should be able to weld a flange on there but check it out.) Downpipe, Charge piping to and from the SMIC/FMIC, Blow Off Valve, Oil Lines, and fuel management units (Vortech FMU, or SAFC/SMT-6/Emanage)

Good luck and keep us updated.
