ham, why no eclipse side mounts? I am assuming they are a cheap intercooler and it is not a design flaw. I recently found a very nice aftermarket sidemount for the DSM cars that I was thinking of using to shorten the air path from turbo to IM

The intercooler itself isn't to bad, its mainly just the piping. I'm talking 2G here, maybe Dweet would no more about the 1G intercooler setup and if they changed it any.

Since you would need to redo the piping, I'm sure a sidemount would work with a little fabrication. If your not boosting too high, like 9PSI on a T25 or 7-8PSI, it wouldn't be too bad. They used el-cheapo materials because the Eclipse GS-T/GSX are 9:1, so their lower compression helps tons. Tib is 10.3:1, where you run into problems. The Tib has high compression compared to most cars back then. Nowadays its all about city driving, so manufacturers run higher compression even on turbocharged cars because they are afraid that the boggy feel of low compression will make people not buy. ;

ah.. I see... no, I was going to run custom piping to a side mount where the windsheild washer resevour is.. then up through where you fill it to a modded airram (flipped around and the TB mount reangled... this should cut several feet out of the tubing needed to intercool the turbo.. and no, I am not boosting high.. most of my driving his highway and long backroads... I need the boost for passing at speed as I always get stuck behind long lines of cars that are usually just at or under the speedlimit

The DSM itself should be fine. The piping is made out of rubber or something, which is why it stinks. A sidemount for what you want should be fine though.

Where's Dweet gone??!?! He'd help us out here. I have a junkyard kit myself. Dweet still has a logstyle manifold for the turbo Java posted.

Do what you want man. Keep in mind that old parts will not be as efficient as new ones and may break down due to the lack of maintenance that Hamhead suggested.

I would suggest getting an FMIC and piping from Speed-Factor. This is where I'm having trouble, my piping is not the greatest, both flow wise and physical shape, and is giving me a headache thinking about how to route it.

As soon as I get my manifold from Maintec I'll start the install. just to see how everything will line up. So I'll know more then, but for now. I say go for it. With out the manifold I have spent 900 CDN, ~700US. There are a ton of things that I need to perfect on it but I have the pieces. I just need some warmer weather.

This is actually the sidemount I was thinking of...

Supposedly good for 400hp with a 1 psi drop...

That ones not bad, especially the efficiency of it. Seems like it would be a good fit over by the reservoir. Very nice idea Mad, should really eliminate a lot of unnecessary piping.

that was the idea...

Anyway, now that we have gone way off topic (I am guilty of it too) to get back to where we were before... It IS possible to get cheap turbo parts from a yard.. but you do need to be really careful in what you buy. Yard parts are generally in poor to servicable shape (or the car would not be in there) or from a wreck.. so you do not know what condition they are likely to be in until you get a chance to look them over professionally.

I have also found that the first things to disappear from any turbo car in a yard is the turbo and intercooler.. I doubt the car is even in the main part of the yard to get picked apart before those vanish...

I would think though, your best bet for finding parts that fit.. try and find a wrecked EVO (there seems to be a plethora of them) as their engine is in the same basic place as ours and maybe some of the IC tubing and such can be modified to fit.

That manifold that I posted pictures of matches a stock RD manifold perfectly. It came with the turbo when I bought it.
