Default Intercooler Temp Question

Has anyone hooked up a temperature probes on the In & Out portions of your inter cooler pipes to actually see what your readings are ?

What temperatures are you seeing ? I know this will vary with the temperature that the intercooler is seeing.

I put one just in front of the TB before. It is below ambient under high vacuum. But you loses that as soon as you go to boost. Never heard of anyone doing the hot side.

You cannot compare. Turbo, relative temps, and intercooler efficiency will vary too much. All you're looking for is to drop your temps like 50-100 degrees from in to out.

I put a temp probe on the IC hot pipe and cold pipe. One at the turbo outlet and the other at the TB inlet. Wrapped them in felt like insulation and inserted a probe under it, then ran the leads into the car where I have two temp meters.

With my stock turbo and the mods I have the hottest I saw was 200F on the hot pipe and that was on coast down after a WOT pull. The cold side pipe was always above ambient but less than the IAT. The IAT consistantly is ~15F hotter than ambient. No temp rise from the air after a run but there is heat soak when there is not a lot of air flowing through the system..

So this tells me the huge AGP IC I have is doing a good job. And that it looks to me that for ambient temps in the 75-100F range a 15F rise is the lowest I can keep it or IAT readings of 90F-115F.

What are some IAT readings you guys see?

For now I have the IAT right in the intake manifold and im seeing temps a little higher than the actual air temp. Megasquirt tells me that under boost im peaking around 175*F
