read your PM from me....

few things that have a good chance of failing in that kit..

boost controller
turbo
BOV
wastegate

which also happen to be the most important parts of the setup.

boost controller fails, you quickly over boost, and BOOM
turbo fails, and you have to buy another one
BOV fails and it doesnt open = bad news
WG fails, doesn't open, overboost and BOOM, or stays open.

You know, its what you are willing to take a chance on. My build has many parts from ebay. Turbo, intercooler, piping, electronic boost controller, and my BOV. I took the money I saved and invested in a better stand alone (Haltech E8) So far the turbo is in great shape, my BOV is working quite well, and I feel I have plenty of protection with the settings that are setup in my Haltech for overboost protection. I always keep an ear on my engine, even with the music on, listening and making sure that the BOV sounds like its doing its job. Not sure what kind of overboost protection you get if you go with any other ECU options, but I know the Haltech is quite good about overboost protection! Slammed my head in the steering wheel cause I had the overboost protection set to aggressive. Pulled like crazy, then all of a sudden, WHAM! no power and head met the steering wheel! LOL!!

One thing I did make sure of is that the rebuilt turbo I purchased was rebuilt with genuine Garret parts and that the turbo was both oil and water cooled. The vendor I purchased the rebuild also warrantied the turbo for 15 months. The seller's history/feedback was very obvious that his main business was rebuilding and selling turbos. Research the sellers history and contact people who have bought these kits and see what they think. Ask him where he sources the parts. You may get an idea of the quality of parts you are getting even if you know a region where they come from. I also think you are better off going with an internal wastegate and a cheaper turbo than a none-name-brand external wastegate. If you get an external gate, go with a name brand, ESPECIALLY on this part, as SOCKS has already made clear what can happen.

But, there is something very good to say to save up and buy good quality parts. I will eventually have to replace some of these cheaper parts. But I accepted that as a consequence to getting the most important part, the stand alone, IMO.

Choice is ultimately yours. Just remember, sometimes you get what you pay for. I feel EXTEMELY lucky that my parts have worked out great so far. But, that doesn't happen with everyone.

New brand name Parts - piece of mind
Cheap ebay parts - do only if you like to gamble! wink1.gif May pay off, may become a head ache down the road.

a bunch of stuff to get it up and running and boosting any actual power.

the kit is missing every bit of fueling..

if i remember right, an internally gated turbo wont fit with that manifold (the internal gate will hit motor)

with the piping included in the kit, you will not have enough bends or couplers to bolt it on, even after cutting the pipe.

there is no oil drain line or fitting.

those boost controllers are un-reliable.

no downpipe

turbo is hit or miss, could fail right when when you get it, few months, or last a long time. some people are using similar knockoff turbos with luck, but not worth the risk IMO.

one guy that bought that same kit, his BOV isn't working anymore after less than 2 months.

i think theres some other stuff missing, its not as good of a deal as it sounds.

Need to buy:

Oil return Line
Tap the oil pan for the return lines
Fuel injectors
Fuel Pump
Various silicone couplers
Boost gauge (to make sure the waste gate is set at what they say)
Stand Alone or Piggyback ECU
Downpipe

You can part the same pieces (same quality) sold in that auction for cheaper on ebay by going through more actions. Just takes more time. I would agree that the ECU is the most important part of the build and this is where the money should be spent to start with.

But I am building a twin turbo Camaro on budget using only "cheap" ebay parts like this. So far buying and building the car I've spent less than $2k. And I'm hoping for a 12 time slip. Just comes down to how much you are willing to risk.
