Default Dual exhaust on a turbo

I see that people upgrade the diameter of their exhaust piping when going turbo. What if you kept the stock diameter (2”) but did a dual exhaust as a true duel or with an x-pipe. Would it equal the same performance as say a 3” diameter pipe upgrade?

Dual exhaust on anything less than an 8 cylinder engine is rice.

If you are getting custom pipes made, why would you not go a little bigger?

Dual exhaust done right can sound quite nice on a 4 banger.

An exhaust system is only as good as its smallest section especially on a turbo engine. Turbos love zero back pressure so as close as you can get to that target the better. Say you had a nice sized turbo with a 3" downpipe that then necked down to a 2" exhaust system. You effectively have a 2" system and it will choke the turbo. If you want the look of a dual set up you can just branch off a pipe after the axle and throw another tip on the other side. This way it won't bottleneck the system and give you the look your after.
