My intercooler pipes are all chrome and I often wonder if I should have went with all black pipes. Does it matter really when it comes to heat retention on what color things are under the hood?

Are they polished or actual chrome? Chrome would add weight. It's unlikely a performance company would chrome plate piping. Most likely, your pipes are polished, and that's fine.
