Totally random thing happened today (BTW it's Jed, hey guys), I was looking for a larger bore MAF sensor housing for Liz's tib, and I found a direct fit (by pure fluke). Check it out:

Find one of these:

As far as I know, it's a 1994-1995 Saab 900 S V6 (2.3L)

I just passed by this random car on my way to a V6 sonata and I found this!!

This is a much larger bore MAF sensor housing, which utilizes the very same MAF sensor! If you're not convinced, remove the RD MAF itself (from the original housing) and simply swap it: It bolts right in!

BEHOLD THE SIZE DIFFERENCE!!

This SAAB unit (also made by BOSCH) is the exact same diameter of the AEM RD CAI. If you grab one from a wreckers, be sure to grab the coupler on the airbox side, as you will need it. There's a temp. sensor in it, I simply broke off the lead and cut the wires to remove any obstruction (AEM has it's own fitting for it).

You will need to fashion a coupler to the elbow, I used the AEM intake's adapter by cutting it so that both ends of the adapter are the same diameter. The stock elbow that goes to the TB (on the MAF side) had to have it's lip cut off, and then fitted with the AEM adapter (also cut).

This is what it looks like, semi assembled

With the right adapter spacer (you may need to visit a hardware store to obtain rubber adapters) It should look like this:

And finally, bolt in the MAF housing and it's coupler (the one from the SAAB's air box to the MAF) to the CAI. It should look like this:

Enjoy a peice of GM technology in your car!!

^lol, well now it's the real Tibbychick.

Well, I have the AEM CAI, BBTB and a port matched IM, so now everything is relatively the same diameter. It seems to flow a bit better, more smoothly than anything. I also put the 1.8 ECU in at the same time so it's still adjusting itself. I guess I'll see over the next few days how it runs. I'll be driving it 8 hours today, yippee.

Absolutely awesome.

So you HAVE to swap out the RD sensor itno the other tube, right?

Any CEL's?

We need to work up a part #.

Redzman, I think this is going to strictly be a junkyard part. From everything ive done searching the MAF and the pipe are one unit, kinda like the latches on the back of headlights to hold the bulb in. I could be wrong as well, or could start trolling for broke MAF senors on other boards...

Will moving to a bigger MAF mess with any calculations about the amount of air that is possible to move through the tube and how the ECU calculates it?

Wow - unbelievable find.

I can't see pics (work blocked) but I read the details. Any chance that the TB is a larger size and bolts up closely to ours? I doubt it, just something I've always wanted to see (bolt-up TB replacement with larger bore).

I can't believe none of you addressed the concern that you will be leaning the hell out of the car during open loop. (Closed loop will compensate)
Going from 2.5" to 3" just gave you 20% more UNMETERED air. You must have a fuel tuner in addition to this mod.

BTW, the XG uses a larger MAF, probably also 3", and also houses the AIT sensor with it. So splicing it into your stock wiring will make things cleaner.
