Cleaning a used turbo
What does it take to disassemble and clean a used turbo I'd pick up at a salvage yard? Should you soak them in anything? I've heard you can soak them in diesel fuel.

Because I love you AV I won't a troll. Take that sh*t to a professional and expect the cost of a new ebay turbo for the rebuild. DIY turbo rebuild is a terrible idea if you're not accustomed to the job.

Soak the bolts in PB Blaster a few times and heat the turbine to CHRA bolts to break them free. If you dont you can possibly shear them off. The compressor side usually comes off easier, unless its a holset since there is a snap ring that holds it on. Watch out for those, they'll put your eye out! Other than that, brake cleen the hell out of them. You can scotch pad the compressor wheel but take warning...do it GENTLY.

I'm running on a turbo I rebuilt. I dipped the compressor and turbine wheels in a carb bath. the compressor is aluminum so if you leave it in too long it will disappear, I put it in just long enough to get the surface grease off ~10 minutes. just spray it off with some brake cleaner and run it, no need to tear it down if you don't know what you're doing.
