Default blow off valves

How do the turbo/supercharger blow off valves work? What I mean is: do they maintain a constant pressure in the line or are there large canges.....If you put a 5 pound valve on, if there is excess boost will it maintain a steady 5 lbs or will there be large changes as the valve cliks on and off?

Tell me what you can....

Ok, are the wastegates more of an analog system, to they tend to keep a steady pressure or do they fliker on and off making wide changes in boost pressure? The last thing you want is to build to 5 lbs then have the valve blow and your pressure to drop to 4 or and then back to five.......What I need is something that will build to 5 lbs and keep it there.

Thanks much.

That is a wastegate. It should start to open at about 4psi, and slowly bleed of excess air till 5psi is reached, and then start to open wider and wider keeping things at 5psi.

a Manual boost controller will alow you to maintain constant preasure for your waste gate!

Internal or External? Tial makes pretty good external wastegates.

Need it for a ram air thing that I am going to build. I do not want too much boost going into the motor, it might blow it. So, as I get fater the pressure will go up righ, I do not want any more then about 5 lbs or so. So, I do not know if that would be internal or not. Any info you could give me would be great.

Thanks
