Default want to do auto to manual trans swap

ok I want to put a 5 speed trans in my auto 02 elantra. I can get my hands a donor car that has everything in it still just has a seized motor. I was wondering what all do I need to take out besides the basics like trans, shifter, pedal, cables, ect to do the swap and what modifications might have to be done. for example would I need the wiring harness, a mount, axels, ecu or other control module or do I just have to change the wire harness?

this is what I have found so far just by google searching

http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/show...227#post131227 - 2nd post for a 99 tib though

http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/show...ghlight=manual - couple posts down there is a list of parts but there not in the first list in the other links post fro the 99 tib but that could be cause he has a beta 1 motor mine has a beta 2

again all I want is a list or some sort or confirmation of what all I need so I don't have to make more then 1 trip to the donor car

also this car is going to be a weekend beater which is y I want to convert it to a manuel

The guides would be helpful, but my sincere advice is to sell your car and use the money to buy a manual equipped car. These swaps are rarely worth the trouble.

I disagree entirely. I swapped my car to manual and the net cost was free, after sales of some parts and the shell of the donor were taken into account. It only cost me a weekend and a few hours of labor from some people who love me. For that, I got a car that had 100% for-sure known maintenance history (purchased new) and I didn't have to get used to anything but the shifting. The stuff I did to my car to get it the way I like it, I didn't have to do to a new car.

The voices say you might need the computer from an 02 (they were separate modules in the first few years) but I'm not sure. Having an entire donor CAR available - especially one of the same model year - is definitely the way to go on this. You will make more than one trip. Ask them pretty please to not let anyone else touch the car for a few days if it's at a yard somewhere. The brake pedal arms were different on my 2000. Be sure to get the hardware that mounts stuff, as well as mounts for stuff.

Make a build thread with a title full of keywords, for the next guy. Pictures and notes of at least the odd parts, please!

You will want the ECU from a manual version of your year model (years can vary) or you will get a cel.

I will def do that cause I see alot of ppl asking about this and not enough info about how pr what you actually need. For example the axles do you need different axles for the Manuel trans but im pulling the whole car out of the yard so ill have everything regardless if I need it or not

I know for the first 4ish years, the axles are different but close-enough to reuse. Because I did it.

That being said, auto axles in a manual transmission might leak oil as they won't lock fully into place. That was my experience - results obviously vary though. Why not offer to take the whole donor car off their hands? Most wreckers here would end up charging you a lot of money if you kept coming back and buying lots of small things.

Mine locked in fine. Maybe you needed a new c-clip? At any rate, used axles are hardly the way I would recommend going when new ones are
