Tried Installing a Fidanza flywheel today...

Default Tried Installing a Fidanza flywheel today...

Hey guys. Have any of you all done a flywheel install? I got a big question... Today my bestfriend and I tried getting the whole throw-out bearing and release fork on the tranny working. Naturally the throw-out bearing was stuck to the pressure plate...are we suspose to detatch it from the pressure plate and mount it with the release fork in the tranny THEN install the tranny? I printed out the webtech thing on it but we were still a little confused. Anyhow, we tried installing the tranny with the throw-out bearing attatched to the pressure plate and tried to get the release fork positioned right but we weren't sure what was happening when it all was buttoned up. Its pretty much done but now the clutch pedal doesn't go to the floor all the way... so what do you guys think? Did our short cut not work? We're gonna take it all apart tomorrow *sigh*, the pedal just doesn't feel right.

Bolt clutch assy. to the flywheel. Do not attach the thowout bearing to the clutch. put the thowout bearing on the tranny and position it on the fork then install tranny. you have to take the lever off the tranny for the thow out bearing to slide it all the way back. once it is installe dthen use the lever to pop the thowout bearing back in place.

the only way to do this..

Wonderful....I actually have to pull the release fork out of the tranny to install the throwout bearing on the output shaft of the tranny? Or in other words, the t.o bearing has to slide all the way to the back of the output shaft?

it sounds like you didn't change your clutch. so i'm going to give you directions based on that. the clutch pedal doesn't go all the way to the floor because the throwout bearing fork is hitting the throwout bearing attached to the pressure plate. with the tranny off of the engine, do the following:

1) take the nut off of the slave cylinder (release cylinder) fulcrum bolt on top of the tranny.

2) with the tranny off, take the throwout bearing off by opening the two open ends on the clip holding the throwout bearing on the pressure plate. there is a tool for this, which you could pick up at any auto parts store.

3) with the bolt off of the throwout bearing fulcrum, the fork that holds the throwout bearing will pivot/swing out enough for you to slide the throwout bearing on the fork.

4) after the throwout bearing is on the fork, slide the fork back in, towards the tranny, and put the nut back on. the nut only fits one way.

5) bolt the tranny up to the engine. after this, you have to manually push the slave cylinder's arm (towards the front of the car) to slip the throwout bearing into the pressure plate. you'll hear a click, and you'll feel a little resistance. you can only push it so far.

6) push the clutch pedal in, and see if it feels right. it will, but this is a measure to make sure the throwout bearing is in the pressure plate.

Good job.

Turburlence gave you guys good directions.

just couple little addons.

to get the throwout bearing off you do not need the special tool you can do it with pliers but it is a bitch. the bearing wiggles some so tug on it a bit and you will the litle wire ring (circlip)

Also, its bad taboo to reuse a throwout bearing.

The general idea is to replace it anytime to change a component.

If you ever hear noise in the transmission after the flywheel change it will probably be the bearing, get it replace dASAP you can lose a tranny to them.

Otherwise Turb has you guys in good hands.

Yeah you guys are great! My best bud and i are gonna tuff it out today in the weather (suspose to snow?) but last night i bought the ring clip spreader thing tool and ordered a new bearing. Hopefully we wont freeze to death. THANKS!!!

UPDATE: Finally!! it turned out that our little throwout bearing ordeal wasn't the problem. My best friend evidently installed the clutch backwards... we found this out after mounting and dismounting the tranny llike 5 times eliminating possible problems. Yeah and it snowed twice today too during all this. Engine revs up faster but it doesn't fall quite as fast as i thought it would've with the new flywheel. Downshifts are definitley on point with no engine lag. All in all, great mod to do. I think after this weekend my best friend Ossie and I have become Tib tranny experts. Got a question about anything drivetrain related, i'm sure we got the answer. Thanks for all your advice people! Rev On!

Ya know, i actually tried to document this whole mod with dig. pics so i dug up my digicam and used it but all the pics came up too bright. Tried to correct it but its all no good. Oh well, i better next time right? Oh yeah, was i suspose to clean the "friction" area of the flywheel before instaling the clutch? I'm not sure if Fidanza put some kinds of protective "film" or of the such but my CM stage 1 feels a bit more "softer" now.... it's been about 150 miles since the install and i think it's progressivly getting 'stickier' but i hope i didn't ruin anything...
