what transmission can I use in my rd2 for a longer 5th gear

 

The XD Elantra's have a longer 5th from what I remember (not by much though and it's hardly noticeable) and it's pretty much a direct swap.

 

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th FD R

96-98 J2,RD 1.8 3.46, 1.95, 1.39, 1.06, 0.87, 3.65 3.25

99-00 J2,RD 2.0 3.46, 1.95, 1.39, 1.03, 0.82, 3.65 3.25

01-06 XD: 3.62, 2.05, 1.37, 1.06, 0.84, 3.65 3.25

03-08 GK: 3.46, 2.05, 1.39, 1.06, 0.83, 4.05 3.25

07-10 HD: 3.30, 1.96, 1.25, 0.97, 0.77, 4.18 3.58







Probably not worth it to swap to XD transmission if searching for longer 5th. I wonder if you could order the HD 0.77 5th gear and install on your transmission. I really miss having a decent highway gear but the improvement in acceleration with the GK trans is well worth it.
