Transmission of 1.6 beta n 1.8
NO, the gear ratios are slightly different. From what I have learned (here in the Forum) the gear ratios in the Tibbies are the same for the 1.6 and the 1.8, but the final gear ratios (differential) are 4.056 for the 1.6 and 3.842 for the 1.8. However, as you asked for "Beta's" it's good to clarify that the Elantra 1.6 and the Tiburon 1.6 have DIFFERENT ratios (don't ask me why). They are as follows
Elantra 1.6--->Tiburon 1.6
3.62 -----> 3.462
2.05 -----> 1.950
1.393-----> 1.393
1.061-----> 1.061
0.878-----> 0.837
Final Differential Ratio 4.056 for both.
I hope that helps. I took it from posts here in the Forum, but I made a table for myself with all the possibilities (up to the 1998 models).
Altough, I can not be absolutly sure they are 100% right.
I forgot to mention, the clutch is NOT the same in 1.6 and 1.8 Elantras, so I don't know if there are other little differences.

Yes, I do have a 1.6 Beta. If they had sold a 1.8 Elantra here noone would have bought one. But there are 1.8 Elantras here. I saw a red 1.8 wagon once.
I think the 1.6 was sold in selected markets only like in Europe, here, some Asian coutries, etc.
