Default tranny swap

I need to know if a tranny out of a 03 Elantra will work in a 01 Tiburon. Both trannies are automatic.

I'm going to say "no" on a hunch. You can't even swap automatics between all the years of the RD platform. They changed the hydraulics as well as the electronics every couple of years. Manual, yes with a bit of fitting. Automatic probably not without more work than it's worth.

The answer is sadly NO.

That's the same auto I bought and tried, it will mate to the block but the linkage is different and the sump/dipstick is out too far forward.

The only autos that fit the RD2s are those from other RD2s. Even the RD1 used a different system entirely. The best bet by far is to swap the auto for a manual. I had my auto rebuilt 4 times in the same 12/month period because it kept blowing up under stock power, then swapped in a different trans and less than 60 days later it went boom again. Save the headaches, swap

That is the only difference between the two?

How hard would it be to switch to a manual? What would i have with the clutch and all that?

On the RD platform, you need everything from the flywheel to the shifter, inclusive, plus the clutch system. One transmission mount is optional. I found it easiest to buy a whole parts car. Some others have gone through junk yards. The transmission on an RD has a standalone computer, and removing it (with the conversion) causes no problems.

Here's a link to the DIY.

It's a bit involved, but for for the out come it's time worth spending.
