Tranny Fluid
 

I wanna change the tranny fluid in my 2001 Tib...

does anyone have any instructions how to do it?.. like how to actually fill it back up and to what level..?

dosent specify exactly how to fill tranny back up with fluid..

Read your owners manual. It will tell you what kind and how much fluid is required.

Now here is the difficult part:

1) Get a funnel that will fit the opening of the tranny dipstick.

2) remove the tranny dipstick

3) check again that it is the tranny dipstick that you have removed. Eeview your owners manual if you are not sure.

4) Place the funnel into the opening after removing the dipstick.

5) Pour the recommended tranny fluid into the funnel. The funnel if placed properly will allow the fluid to enter the tranny without spilling onto the surrounding motor thingy.

6) Once you have filled up the tranny with the recommended amount of the recommeded tranny fluid, remove the funnel.

7) Wipe up any small spills with a rag of some sort (hint don't use your shirt your mom will get mad).

8) Replace the tranny dipstick.

9) Remove tranny dipstick and check level (first time it might read too high see following steps)

10 ) Replace Tranny dipstick.

11) Start motor and let it run a bit.

12) stop motor

13 ) repeat steps 9 & 10. Level should tranny has correct amount of fluid.

14) if under recommedned amount add slightly more fluid. do not over fill

i know its dumb but do you HAve to use the recommended tranny fluid or can you go to some performance fluid...

what would u recommend?

Hi,why don´t you put lifetime tranny fluid???
Once you put it you´ll never have to change it again....HMC now uses lifetime trannies fluid :cool:

what would u recommend?</div>You can use a performance fluid but it requires more maintenance.

Unless you are racing or really beating on your tranny (which mean you are racing) use the recommended tranny fluid.

As an example Ford and GM have different requirements for their trannies (i am talking about their automatic trannies). I would not put tranny fluid for a ford into a gm tranny and vice versa)

If you want to use a synthetic I would suggest AMSOIL. before you use it talk to your local speed shop about it. its not cheap but it is supposed to be very good.
