There are diffrences in Automatic transmission from the 97-00 tiburons and 01 tiburons

1997 - and some 2000 (depending on production early or late run) Tiburons equiped with automatics transmissons had the "PWR/NOR" switch on the center shifter area. These automatic transmissons had 2 shifts valves to control the 4 speeds.

Some 2000 - 2001 Tiburons did NOT have the "PWR/NOR" switch. The trans had 2 shift valves and 1 line applying pressure valve that reduces shift shock and has smoother shifts.

Either transmisson are not compatible in either cars, there diffrences are in the TCM (transmisson contrrol module) and the ability to control the extra shift valve.

Since you said that you have a 97 tiburon the 01 transmisson will not work with your car. The 01 Tiburon transmisson will fit in the 97 physically but will not shift correctly

It would not, there are a few wires that are not installed in the wiring harness onthe older Tibs. The newer Tibs have that extra shift solenoid, therefore requiring more wire in the wiring harness.

How many miles did you put on it before it blew???
Hope you have some luck findin' one! Just call around to the local junk yards and see if they have any decent trannys with decent mileage on them. Good luck!

Shouldn't powertrain warranty cover this repair, or did Hyundai not have the 10/100,000 back then?

no 10/100000 then. The trannys are similar to Mitsu ones and are a 50/50 chance of being good, or bad
