Default slicks and axles

Hey,
Found out NHRA sanctioned construction of a track near my home town. I have a feeling I will be spending a lot of time down there next summer, after completion. I was wondering if I will be breaking axles in my 2001 Tib if I throw on some slicks on 14" steelies? Also, how much of a detrimental effect will this have on my diff? I will have I/H/E, 61mm tb/BIM, gt cam, probably the fidanza unit an upgraded clutch (hear ACT is testing). Hopefully I don't have to look at the drag axles and quafie diff. Thanks guys

with those mods you wont need some axles, and you wont blow a differential

I'm not entirely sure of that Jaws...

I've seen later-model BETA transmissions eat the pinion shaft pin (shell the differential) under STOCK horsepower or with just a cat back along with heavy rims.

If you wheel hop it a whole lot while grabbing traction, along with some halfway decent power, it wouldn't necessarily suprise me to see it die. You aren't gonna break an axle anytime soon, but the later model differentials have really weak pinion shaft pins sad.gif

Dunno, guess you can always try it out. So far I haven't killed mine yet, but this transmission is OLD (pre-97 manufacture date) and has the stronger pinion shaft pin. Somewhere in early 99 Hyundai changed the design of the pinion shaft and that's when it started getting weak.

Dunno, from a "totally stock" standpoint on the differential, the oldest transmissions were the strongest.

It seems to me that from almost every standpoint, the very original parts that Hyundai made (Revision A stuff) held together the best. Rev-A clutches seem to live the longest, diffs don't seem to explode, blocks are reportedly stronger (no holes in the rods eek! ), alternators live longer, you name it.

I think after Hyundai overbuilt everything in the very beginning to jump-start their "Hyundai advantage" appearance after all the Mitsu shyt they just left. Once they got the ball rolling, they started paring back on the build costs...

the simple fact here is that slicks break things!!

I've seen 400hp mustangs run on street tires not break a damn thing! And then I've seen stock mustangs break the trans with slicks on it!!

Unless you are just a balls to the wall drag racer don't worry about the slicks! Our cars aren't made to handle slicks! and unless you beef a trans up like RED is doing I wouldn't recomend using them!!

Of course you might get lucky and not break anything but you have to understand! Are you driving a race car or are you driving your everyday driver!! If you snap something and it's your best means of transportation do you have the cash to put it back on the road quick enough!!

Just food for thought!!
