Default short shifter installation

i have a question. a while back i recieved my SR short shifter for my 98 tibby. i installed the actual short stick but i didnt bother changing the bottom piece because to me it looked exactly like the original part. was i wrong in doing that? b/c i was having some occassional problems and i was wondering if it was b/c i didnt not install the new piece.

The bottom piece shortens the throw side-to-side; put it in.

Just remember to remove the retaining pin from the bolt head under the baseplate before removing the bolt, or you'll strip the poop out of the plastic on the base.

It's really not to hard, it just looks that way. My only suggestion would be get a dremel and get ready to hack!

PS: Speedstate and Decker's Webpage both have a good install guide.

i already have a dremil...and i already installed the shifter itself but if you've seen the pieces that come, the shifter comes with 2 pieces, the piece that you connect the shift knob and the bottom piece, well that bottom piece looks identical to the original piece so i didnt change it. but i already cut out the part of the base to fit the rest of the shifter

as someone said before the bottom piece shortens your shift from side to side plus it allows the shifter to become shorterin one inch increments...
