I did not notice any flexing of the shifter plate. It probably does a minor bit, but not that I can really notice.
My guess is, it really depends how how much material you cut away.

thanks for the info guys.
believe me i started small a worked my way up (open). now theres just enough clearence for proper shifting. just as a note the bottom plate where i cut it out isnt moving.
the rh vertical molded walls are.
as i said i'm working on a bracket (brace)
to stiffen things up.
btw- i removed the silly plastic or are they hard rubber stops for the lower shifter
shifter. in the handy holes where the stops
were i tapped both the front and rear steel
1/4-28 (the holes that are there are just the
right size for 1/4-28. couple of 1/4-28
hex head bolts-couple of 1/2 height 1/4-28 nuts-a little fancy adjusting-wow just like the big guys positive shifter stops (no
more mush)
also last saturday i installed shark racing's
front strut bar-no suprise here(all the other postings on this board was a big help)
total time was approx 1/2 including modifing the knock senser? brachet to fit around the bar
tomorrow the rear strut bar.
thanks for the help
