Default Limited Slip Differential

Random, would it be worth it to upgrade your diferential? I found a site that sell them for the Tib and it it said to help,Accelerate Quicker, Eliminate Torque Steer, Corner Faster,Improve 60' Times. It is selling for about $280! Would this be a good buy or what is you opinion?

Phantom grip, yup it works as promissed but will only take .2 off hi powered tibs, the unit it self is worth it if you can put it in your self, the labour to ripp a tranny apart will be more than the unit, wait for a clutch change then do both.

What does it actually do? I heard from my friend that it makes both wheels spin when you're racing...

it's a fake lsd, basically it's a set of plates with springs and when it is put inside your diff when one spins it transfers power to the other wheel. Unlike a real lsd which is full time the phantom grip is basically a half lsd in a way. If you go to the track, and into the burnout box ( as I found out the hard way ) and do a burnout, you spin one tire more than the other. Then you go to launch and the OTHER tire spins since it's still cold, with an lsd it will spin both and let you launch with both spinning equally, means better traction.

In high power tibbys, it may be a bad thing. Onpol had one, and he snaped an axle on his last trip to the track with Drag Radials.

They are still ripping the tranny apart, so no word yet as to exactally what went wrong, it might not the be the Phantom Grip.

I would recommend it if the product is designed to withstand the power you have under your hood. It will help you take off by using both wheels traction *depending on the % of grip*. This is also good for driving since high power really pulls to the right, the limited slip will reduce this. The only problem, besides if it can take your power is how limited is it since cornering with low slip gets harder and your tires will wear quick. So from my point of view it really depends on the characteristics and what you want it for.

Maybe some company will custom make you a "locker". 4x4's use locking differentials for extreme offroading. Some companies make lockers that are switchable between full open and fully locked.
A limited slip differential can wear your tires faster "if" it is not set up properly. If it is set up to tight then you could wear out your tires but it will also wear out the clutch packs in the diff. Turning sharp corners (intersections) with a LSD can be very tricky in winter time. The front end will want to follow any grade to the road instead of the direction of the tires. If you are turning at an intersection and have lots of HP, and you step on the gas hard you may find that you are not turning but pushing the front end in a not so desired direction. Ask anyone who drives a rear wheel drive with a posi-track diff, I am sure they can tell you all sorts of stories.

I am getting one since I made some questions and I liked the answers. It seems it is a progresive slip. At low speeds and torque they say you cannot even feel it, but when torque increases the grip. I will try it and will let you know.
If this is true, I can understand why when warming the tires before dragging this will not work since there is no torque on it!!
Seems you need good grip to make it work.
They also say it is very streetable???? We will find out in a few weeks.
