Is it safe to run an OEM factory clutch with a Fidanza light weight flywheel or will the decrease weight cause the clutch to be torn up easier?

 

i've had that setup n/a for 5 years now-... no issues.

 

Is there an increase in HP with leightweight flywheel? Was there any noticable changes to the engine performance?

 

how would less flywheel weight cause more wear on the clutch?

 

Theoretically, the engine accelerates and decelerates more quickly. If you don't rev-match your shifts the engine and transmission speeds could be at greater variance with a lighter flywheel. In actual practice, you will kill your clutch racing from a stop light faster than from having a light flywheel. I wouldn't sweat it.

 

A lighter flywheel does not create more engine HP. It will, however, reduce the amount of energy (power) needed to get things rolling, so it may FEEL like you have more HP. You may have a slightly snappier rev and acceleration, but overall HP will not be affected. Similarly, having lighter wheels remove the rotating weight, thereby taking less energy to rotate. Again, changing your tires/wheels doesn't physically give you more HP, just the feel of it.
