Had a thought while driving last night. I realized that I used to look at my tachometer to shift when I first got my car, but now I keep my eyes on the road and solely shift based on the noise of the engine. I wanted to see how the rest of you determine when to shift.
depends on the situation
if im tryin to get decent gas mileage (24mpg tops on premium) i shift at 1900 rpms
if im haulin ass ill do both check the tach and listen to the engine

I usually don't look at anything, I shift based on feel. For either driving around town like a grandma or for pushing it hard. If I'm in 4th or higher and pushing it hard I'll look at the tach to determine when to shift up since there's more time to think about it.
my tach is busted so i go by sound if i'm worried about redline but in my day to day driving, even if it's spirited, i can feel so much of the beta through the pedals that i don't really think about it.
