Is FWD or RWD better for off road?

I'm not talking crazy off roading or anything. I'm talking your in heavy traffic and are sick of waiting so you say, "EFF IT" and you pull off into a field or something of the sorts as a shortcut. Is fwd or rwd going to fair better? Or would it be more about the vehicles ground clearance perhaps?

depends on the terrain

there are awd, fwd, and rwd classes in rally

most offroaders are either rwd or 4wd

Depends on weight distribution. Most vehicles are heavier in front. Off road it's generally better to have the power where the weight is. It's also good sometimes to be able to turn your power tires.

FWD rally cars dominated RWD rally cars for the reasons listed above.

Think about a RWD truck in the snow, vs something like a civic. Its pretty much the same thing on dirt or gravel.
