Flywheel Benefits
This is really dumb question and I should know this but do autos even have fly wheels or is the torque converter attached to the crackshaft directly?
If they do would it make any difference in acceleration to change to a lite weight one?

terrible, terrible flexplates... light as hell compared to a flywheel! GOd damn that Pony flywheel is HEAVY!!
yeah, lighter material is the only benefit, but trust me it's worth it. If I threw the flywheel at you (hard to do to begin with) it'd kill you.

A lighter flywheel does help you accelerate faster, and gain or loose RPM faster.
SCC did some quick math in regards to rotational inertial and weight.
Using the standard honda civic gearing, loosing 6 lbs off the flywheel showed these mathmatical gains.
In 1st gear, it was like shaving 266lbs off the car
In 2nd gear, it was like shaving 122lbs off the car
In 3rd gear, it was like shaving 65 lbs off the car
in 4th, 40 lbs
and in 5th, 29 lbs.
In order for your engine to transfer "pistion" power into "roational" power, it has to accelerate the crank, flywheel, clutch assembly, the gears, the driveshafts, the brake rotors and the wheels/tire combo.
That's A LOT of weight to try to get rotating. The more weight you can shave off parts, the easier it is to get them to rotate (move).
BTW...in a recent comparison of flywheels.
RPW's high Carbon steel Flywheel was 11.5 lbs
Fidanza's aluminum flywheel was 7.5 lbs.
The stockers weight is still unknown, but when I weight it, I'll put up a post about it.
Also...the RPW unit cam with a 5 hole arangement to because of bolts in the flex plate. The Fidanza has a 6 hole system. Both the 99 elantra project motor I have, and the 2001 Elantra (new beta) that Jaws021 has, are BOTH 6 bolt affairs, so I am unable to use the RPW unit, and I will have to get a Fidanza unit. (not to mention the 4 lbs difference!)

5bolts? sucks
I got 6 smile.gif
I believe the stocky is 26lbs.
I remember it being heavy when I put it on.
But I think HRD said it was 26lbs
I would ask him, but hes not talking to me right now sad.gif I dont know why frown

no!!
Autos use torque convertors and flex plates.
Manuals use Clutches and Flywheels and Pressureplates.
Goto levelten.com get their number and call them up, then find a spare torque convertor, send it to them pay them oney and they will make it into a performance torque convertor.
I am selling one if ya want, from 2000 tiburon smile.gif has 25kmiles on it, umm $200 plus shipping.
or you can have the shop take yours out, and be without a car PLUS pay them for keep the unworking car in their lot till ya send it to levelten and get it back smile.gif

Is the Fidanza unit being sold already? How much?
