as some of you know i did a tranny swap
and before the swap i had the stock flywheel lightened and i did not have them go crazy on it
after lightening its 13 lbs. they could have gone lighter but i wanted to be on the safe side
one thing is for sure first winds out faster
but if your one of those thats likes to impress
everybody with second gear scratches you will
have work harder for them
and before you tear your cars apart run down to stockers lightened our flywheels cannot be balanced on the standard balance machines everybody has they require a center hole of at least 1" and flywheels have about a 5/8" hole
so the guy who balanced mine charged me $75 to make an adapter on top of the $65 for lightening
and balance

the 5 bolt vs 6 bolt pattern were ONLY for the RPW flywheel. RPW claims that 5 bolt flywheel fits The beta, but it does not. The 6 bolt Fidanza unit does.
The Fidanza unit fits beta2's and beta1's made after 6/99. If you have a 1.8L or a 2.0L made before 6/99, then you will need the 3mm spacer. If you have a 2000 or newer tibby, you should have no problems with the flywheel.
The stock unit was 16 lbs.
The Fidanza unit was 7.5 lbs
the RPW unit was 11.5 lbs
XtreemePC's lightened stocker is 13 lbs.
BTW. Jaws021 has a STOCK flywheel for sale. wink

well a stock flywheel is well balanced
but if you have any machining done it will need to be rebalanced
im not sure how thick the spacer from the auto
flex plate setup is but i do know there were two
one in front and one behind the flex plate

They come balanced. So no worries there.
To be honest, I have no idea where you could get a 3mm spacer from, or if you would have to fabricate one. In the measuring we did, the Fidaza unit was 3mm FARTHER away from the starter teeth than the stocker. So, in my opinion, it should work just fine, with no spacer needed, however, it was HRD Tiburon who informed that a 3mm spacer is needed. I'm still not 100% sure on that myself....

Random, i got both style of flywheels, the earlier beta use a larger "crank pilot" (sorry can't find a better term) to center the flywheel
using an old style flywheel on a newer (6-99 and up) Beta can cause the flywheel to not be centered on the crank
You shouldn't check the distance from the flange to the ring but the distance from the flange to the clutch surface
I'll try to take some measurement tomorrow

Raqndom, i measured two different styles of flywheels both beta1 but one made before 6/99 and the other made after that date
on the clutch side nothing is changed but on the crank side they made a major rework
before 6/99 after 6/99
contersink diameter 41mm 35mm
contersink depth 5mm 7.5mm
crank the friction surface 22mm 24.5mm
friction surface to ring gear 20.5mm 20.5mm
Bolt patern is the same on both flywheels
i also measure the crank on a after 6/99 beta
and the shoulder has a diameter of 35mm and is 6.7mm high
so if you install an older style flywheel on a newer crank you will need to use a 3mm shim and it will only be centered on the crank by the bolts wich is not a proper way to do it,it migh have too much runout
