That sucks...so a bad clutch can really mess it up? I guess our stock flywheels are a lot stronger then. But that is where the weight is.

How long does an aluminum flywheel usually last in comparison to our stock ones?
Been playing with the idea on getting one but I'm not sure it it's worth the $300-400, plus a new clutch.

 

While were on the subject of Flywheels.

I recently had a chance to play with the RPW unit and the Fidanza unit up close.

The Fidanza unit was 7.5 lbs.
The RPW unit was 11.5 lbs.

The RPW unit is high carbon steel
The Fidanza unit is Alumimum

I was going to fit the RPW unit to my GONZO boost project motor, but for some damn reason, the RPW flywheel has a 5 bolt pattern rather than the 6 bolt pattern on my engine. (jaws021's BetaII motor is also 6bolt). They have the same inner spline count, and the same inner spline measurements, only the bolt pattern is different.

I'm waiting to hear back from RPW on what is up with the 5 bolt vs 6 bolt problem.

The good info Random, have you installed the Fidanze unit yet, I would be interested in knowing how the car feels/engine revs up after install. Whats our stock flywheel weight? 16 lbs or something?

your 5 bolts flywheel is for a 1.5 alpha,at least the bolt patern looks very similar to the alpha flywheel i got here (1 bolt is offseted)
Stock flywheel weight are 16.09 lbs for the 1st gen 2.0 and 16.25 for the second gen 2.0

And by the look of it a 2nd gen flywheel wil lfit on a 1st gen 2.0
anyone here got a lightened stock flywheel? weight might be very close to the RPW one...

The Fidanza flywheel is for July of 1999 and later crankshafts. I had a junk clutch that had been made for me, and it had to be removed. I said thats it and have not done another thing to the car since, nor will I. I have been screwed over by this Hyundai parts dealer here and many other people for custom jobs. I am trying to get rib of my custom brakes when and if I get them, they are 13" vented and slotted rotors and billet 4 piston calipers. I got stuck for almost 1300.00 for building the brakes up, they had to buy a Hyundai knuckle assembly to model it. I will sell the brakes cheaper than that just to get rid of them, $1000.00 or less if it comes to it.

 

Will the Fidanza work with the stock clutch?

 

HRd, wich brand was the defect clutch? it might prevent other from the same problem...
Copa, stock clutch if it's in good working condition will work with any flywheel, but if you got lots of abuse and milage you should at least use a new stock clutch
