experience w/ tranny rebuild?
has anyone rebuilt their tranny? from what i've seen on webtech, it doesn't seem like it's too hard, just time consuming. i mean, for some one with mechanical inclination and the right tools, how hard is it and how long should it take? btw, my synchros aren't too happy from driving around with gl5 oil in them for 13,000 miles sad.gif feels like driving a screwdriver into a bucket of rocks, even on warm days, so it's not just the cold.

After taking one apart, I'll be the first to say...Uh, no. Not me anyways.
It took about 3 hours to take the damn thing apart, and once the 2 parts seperated, parts flew in about 3-4 different directions. Getting it back together is possible, but I wouldn't want to try it with just HMA service as my only guide.
Buy yourself a used tranny. Install it yourself, then "experiment" with the old tranny. That way you're always up and running if you can't get it back together.

hmm so your saying that changing your clutch is a hard thing to do??
Or are we talking about the gears???
I was going to give it a go by myself (never done anything like this before but have a little mechanical knowledge)
Advice?
Thanks

no no no, alz. we're talking about rebuilding the actual tranny, with new syncrhos. changing the clutch isn't bad. your first time, it'll be an experience. but once you're done, you'll realize it wasn't that bad. webtech or the paper version of the shop manual, a socket set, a torque wrench, and several hours is sufficient.

ALZ99- Changing the clutch is a walk in the park compared to dissassembling and reassembling a tranny.
To install the clutch, you just need to remove the tranny, not dissassemble the tranny.
