cutting the stock shifter

i know there are aftermarket short shifters out there but has anyone ever actually just taken their stock shifter and cut it down to size? it may not be a shorter throw but i dont care too much for that. i just hate how tall my stock one is.

If you're going for straight looks, then yeah, cut the stock one down a couple inches and retap it. Also, think about an aftermarket shift boot as the stock one will look like crap all bunched up on the shorter shifter.
