Cutting down the shifter

A. Has anyone cut down their shifter stick and re threaded it? I'd like to drop it down about an inch or so. I have taps and dyes but I wasn't sure if anyone had tried this

B. If they had, what were your results and or feelings about it?

i did something similar

i cut mine at the base, took about 2 inches of and the welded it back to the base, so i didnt need to rethread the shifter

it definently was shorter and in my opinion looked a lot better, but in terms of performance its the same, its NOT the same as a short shifter the travel will be the same but it will feel different since it is shorter

in my opinion if your looking for performance get a proper short shifter, if you just want looks cut it it wont have any negative effects

cutting a shifter is only for looks. it wont change the throw. Not sure if the shifter 'rod' is hardened or not, but it might be a pain in the ass to tap it.. more than you would think anyway.. and I don't think the rod is the same diameter as the tapped part. i could be mistaken though.

If thats the case, you would have to somehow turn down the diameter of the rod to the proper diameter of the die.

I cut mine and welded it back on. The only problem I had was getting the alignment right so I wouldn't hit the console or the cup holder when shifting. I like the look of the shorter shifter compared to the original size.

easier and more effective just to buy a good one.

I would have purchased an aftermarket one if they didn't cost so much $$.
