Cluthc noise

i been working on my tib since i got it back and i ended up messing with the clutch lines (lost some pedal).

in the process, i noticed the clutch arm on top of the trany was clocked weird. turns out my cuz ground out the flat spot that only alows it to be put on at a certain position. and rotated it to keep pressure on the slave cyl.

now when i move the clutch arm it moves about a 1/2 to a full inch and makes a sorta clunk sound....

any ideas to what im going to need to replace before i tear down? i hate down time....

BTW: the clutch engages and disengages just fine.

now when I move the clutch arm it moves . . . is a confusing sentence.

Please clarify the types and directions of motion involved.

sorry, moving it as if ur trying to engage or disengage it by hand. how u lock it the TOB if u just put a clutch kit in.

Add/bleed the clutch fluid first, then check it., since" i ended up messing with the clutch lines (lost some pedal)".

tib _500 10-22-2010 03:38 PM

i already did that. i lost the pedal before i started messing with it.i discovered it when i was bleeding/changing the fluid. it works fine it just doesnt sound or feel good. i also know it didnt do that when i put in the new clutch.

Any chance of a photo of this arrangement?

tib _500 10-22-2010 09:54 PM

ill probably have to just make a video tmrw. its really hard to explain and i cant find any logical thing it could be with my knowledge of the trans and clutch setup since it still works fine.

DTN 10-23-2010 08:04 AM

What brand of clutch was it?

tib _500 10-23-2010 08:30 AM

everything is OEM factory replacement bolts, flywheel, and all clutch components. only about 5000 miles on all of it. the trans has about 60k all new fluid.

also this tib is a 99 but i have converted it to a 2000 motor and trans. and the flywheel is correct

Are you sure it was a stock throw-out bearing? I had one which was too small. it is in the clutch review thread. it was making a kerchunk noise when the clutch was depressed. when revving high and depressing the clutch, it would pop out, leaving me clutchless. The TOB was about 1/4mm too small.

You can't just reposition the clutch release lever? It should be positioned so that when the clutch slave cylinder is at full extension, it is putting a slight bit of pressure on the clutch lever.

Where does the noise sound like it is comming from?

Are there any additional noises included with the kerchunk?

I'm very confused as to the actual problem here. Can you use some better words and describe the problem? Lets start with defining terminology...

arm = the pivoting arm on top of the clutch
pedal = the clutch pedal
lines = hydraulic lines from master to slave cylinder
clutch = the disc between the pressure plate and the flywheel
clutch release fork = the rod that the clutch arm attaches to
releaser fork bushings = the bushings at the top and the bottom of the fork
throw out bearing = the thing that attches to the fork and the pressure plate

now, using these words, please describe the problem so that we can understand it.
