Default Beta 1 to Beta 2 Tranny Replacement

Simply... it died. The previous owner of my 00 Tiburon drove the car hard and wasn't great at maintaining it, so I knew that this day would come eventually. I just wish it hadn't come when I was cash strapped... but then I'm almost cash strapped so whatever.

I remember from back in the day on rdtiburon.com that there was a thread discussing gear ratios and I noted in the back of my mind as I knew that I would be wanting to look at that someday soon. Now I can't find that thread anywhere... it had gone over the ratios for each Tiburon and Elantra Beta 1 & 2. The conclusion was that the best transmission to get if you were interested in lowering your RPMs for cruising (5th gear) that a specific Elantra year was suggested. As I recall (and reinforced with comments from other people who have swapped this in) it was the 02 Elantra.

So right now I'm looking at getting 02 Elantra trannys. Though I found a nice 03 Elantra tranny with only 6k miles on close to me, but I'm not sure if it has the same gear ratios as the 02. :/

187sks referred me to: https://www.hyundaiaftermarket.org/f..._1#entry599517

But when I try to open the file, it bugs out and doesn't show me anything...

Question: Does the 03 Elantra tranny have the same gear ratios as the 02?

Is there a better tranny for low RPM cruising that I'm not aware of?

As I'm switching from a 00 RD2 Beta 1 Tranny to a Beta 2 Tranny is there any modifications that need to be done?
(Besides grinding the lil nub) I seem to recall something about some cable line being different in length and needing to be replaced?)

Being that I'm getting the tranny from a yard, is it typical that the flywheel/clutch are together with the tranny or would those be separate? I'm expecting them to be separate but it would be sweet if I could get a 6k miles tranny with clutch attached

Clutch & Flywheel:

After browsing the forums for a bit I've come to the conclusion that: (correct me if I'm wrong)

I want a Stock or Stage 2 Clutch (I have CAI, Megan Headers, 2.25" Exhaust, Beta 2 engine)

Replacing the Stock Flywheel with XTD Flywheel is a good idea.

I don't want to buy XTR.

I'd be interested in ACT clutch, but they are priced outside of my budget and since it's unlikely I'll never be nonNA it's probably overkill.

My current plan is to pick up a XTD Flywheel and a OEM Stock Clutch kit. I'd consider getting a XTD Stage 2 Clutch kit but based on what people have said I'm not sure it'd be any performance improvement from Stock and it is probably lower quality. Other Suggestions?

While everything is being worked on at the tranny, any other modifications that people would suggest?

Thanks for your help!

To answer some of my own questions (and future searchers that come across this post)

Gear Ratios:

This site has pretty good information on the gear ratios http://www.speedwheels.com/hyundai/2...specifications

In a nutshell, the MT to get for the Beta 1 or Beta 2 engine is the Elantra '02 & '04+ versions. They have the longer 5th gear which lowers RPM at 75-80 mph (people report 500 RPM drop) and have a shorter 3rd gear to be more rev happy.

Ratios for XD 02 & 05+

• First Gear Ratio (:1) : 3.62

• Second Gear Ratio (:1) : 2.05

• Third Gear Ratio (:1) : 1.37

• Fourth Gear Rato (:1) : 1.06

• Fifth Gear Ratio (:1) : 0.84

• Reverse Ratio (:1) : 3.25

• Final Drive Axle Ratio (:1) : 3.65

Ratios for GK 03+

• First Gear Ratio (:1) : 3.46

• Second Gear Ratio (:1) : 2.05

• Third Gear Ratio (:1) : 1.39

• Fourth Gear Rato (:1) : 1.06

• Fifth Gear Ratio (:1) : 0.84

• Reverse Ratio (:1) : 3.25

• Final Drive Axle Ratio (:1) : 4.06

For reference the RD 00 Beta 1:

• First Gear Ratio (:1) : 3.462

• Second Gear Ratio (:1) : 2.053

• Third Gear Ratio (:1) : 1.370

• Fourth Gear Rato (:1) : 1.031

• Fifth Gear Ratio (:1) : 0.837

• Reverse Ratio (:1) : 3.250

• Final Drive Axle Ratio (:1) : 3.842

The Final drive Axle Ratio has me a bit confused... anyone want to weight in on that number?
